Original steps

  1. Lightly grease a round Pyrex dish with butter, then spread the puff pastry, leaving a 2 cm border at the edges, and prick the surface with a fork.
  2. Peel the apples and cut each into 8 slices, then arrange the apple slices over the pastry.
  3. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of sugar over the apples and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes.
  4. Whisk the egg, cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla together thoroughly with a whisk.
  5. Remove the Pyrex from the oven, pour the egg and cream mixture over the apples, and return to the oven until golden brown.
