Cookwala / For

For NGOs, food banks, community kitchens, school-meal and relief programs, donors

The Humanitarian Profile moves surplus food to plates with phones and spreadsheets, records cold-chain checks, counts meals, and carries no personal data. It works without robots, apps or internet, and gives you numbers you can defend.

Why it matters to you

Offer, claim, handover with a temperature check, distribution, impact: four documents and a summary computed from them, with a method under every number: kilograms rescued, meals served, nutrition pass rate, cost per meal, time to claim, safety findings and incidents. Rule packs derived from public WHO, Codex and Sphere guidance check every handover and menu, and your food-safety lead adapts them to national law. People are partners, described by role; nobody is named, profiled or pictured.

Ways in, light to deep

  1. Light. Read the profile and the pilot protocol; try the SMS walkthrough.
  2. Medium. Run the CSV templates in one site for four weeks (level H0) and compute an impact summary.
  3. Deep. A 12-week pre-registered pilot with a baseline and an independent evaluator; adapt the rule packs with your food-safety lead; run your own registry node.

First success, under 15 minutes

The four CSV templates (offers, handovers, distributions, time log) are the paper trail; the summary tool reads the JSON documents. Run it on the example food-bank month, then point it at your own folder:

cookwala humanitarian --summary examples/humanitarian/flows/food-bank-cairo --org did:web:your-org.example --from 2026-11-01 --to 2026-11-30
ImpactSummary: kgRescued 128 (measured, sum of Handover.lines.kgAccepted, n=2) · mealsServed 380 (measured) · timeToClaimMinutesMedian 22 (measured) …

The path after that

  1. Offer → claim → handover with a temperature check → distribution
  2. Impact summary computed, never typed
  3. Baseline, pilot, independent evaluation
  4. Published results, whatever they show
